A day out Saturday September 19th 2009 Three of us Midlanders went on a great bimble yesterday, led by Blackcountry Pete,Paul and I met up at The Black Country Museum in Dudley. If you are ever up this way it's a good day out.You can see how life was up here during the 18/19th centuries, they even have a working beam engine and you can go down a coal mine, but the best bit is Fish & Chips cooked in beef dripping.Anyway we set off through the town soon coming to greenery and narrow twisty lanes, just the thing for our machines. But it was soon time for a break.
The local council had obviously heard we were coming and kindly put a seat there.
Petes on the left, guess were Paul is.This was a lovely peaceful spot where we watched a Buzzard hunt, the locals waved to us from their top of the range motors,Pete recons it's an affluent area.
Back on the motorcycles (Proff it's so much easier to type "bikes",but I just can't bring myself to do it) and down more narrow lanes,Pete having to take avoiding action to miss a Roller which was 3/4 way across the road before the driver could see down the road.Through lovely villages we rode to the historic town of Ironbridge for a pub lunch. This is the place the industrial revolution started and without this we wouldn't be riding our Hondas.
The bridge is the first in the world to be made of metal and was cast and built in 1779. After lunch it was back on the bikes, sorry Proff, and off back to Dudley via more ideal bimbling lanes with a last stop for a pee, well I needed one,the other two wanted a smoke.
Pete tried to take out a young pedestrian at a crossing,it was his right of way,but the lad was too fast for him. A great day out, thanks for the company lads, and the route Pete, see you at Matlock. Can't wait. |
