Le Bimble

Lancashire to Normandy France  May / June 2009

I had a brilliant time with brilliant weather and brilliant company. I would love to do it all again. On the way home with Bogger i did 403 miles (with detour due to closed motorway), a personal best. As i was approaching my exit on the M6 i realised i was 20 miles short of 400 so i carried on up to junction 35 and back to bump it up. If i was single i might have been tempted to carry on to 500 as i was feeling ok but visions of rolling pins and frosty shoulders brought me to my senses

Thiepval Memorial in the background

The best campsite in the world. In the grounds of a Chateaux by a river and a pond, we had an island almost to ourselves !

Ric hard at work on his bowl

Fully laden, chosing and packing is quite crutial on long trips and you quickly learn whats needed and whats not.

Another view.

By the way, i only spent £110 pounds. Total mileage 1554. Best mileage to tankfull 163.
What a cracking good trip.

Dragon Rally

Anglesey North Wales  February 2009

To be honest i wasn`t too keen on sharing a tent with a bloke but i still respected him in the morning, for not snoring that is.

When we were in Scotland last year and i was sharing a room with Nige and Swim around 3 in the morning i threw a pillow at Swim to try and stop his snoring, then realised it was Nige instead .

Its a funny thing these long journeys on little bikes, you just seem to go into your own time zone as the world passes you by and you mull over nearly everything in your life putting things in order.
It was minus three when i set off and around zero to plus two for most of the journey back and only my finger ends gave me jip with just a pair of latex gloves and some old second hand gauntlet jobbies.

If i did this again i would have heated grips so i wouldnt have to stop as much.

I had to stop at a few service stations to pay a call but couldnt reach my wedding tackle through my four layers of keks and frozen fingers, i had to hold my hands under the toilets hot air blowers for a few minutes until i got the feeling back.

At one service station i was just getting my gear back on in the car park when an old battered BMW pulled up (R80rt), the rider shouted " areet Jacko " I realised it was an old mate Pranny and then noticed his Bm was fully laden with camping gear.

" You havn`t just been to Anglesey have you mate " I offered "Certainly have young man and i`m suffering now " came the chortled reply.

We didnt meet at the rally and Salty and i walked round the site admiring the bikes and talking to nearly everyone, its wierd how we missed each other.

He asked me why when i have a big BMW with heated grips at home i went on the tiddler. " cos it`s a laugh " i said, and it was.

People just come over to you ALL THE TIME.

I had one of those, brilliant machines, they say.

The Dragon Rally was great, got to know Salty and he is a great character, but Jon and Elizabeth if you are reading i take my Russian hat off to you both, Jon is only 18 and a really nice bloke with some great ideas that i hope he carries out. Elizabeth if you are reading i didnt get chance to chat to you properly but you did something really amazing and we were all in awe.

I know it was tough but i hope you enjoyed the journey. I slept for thirteen hours.
Right where next ?
